Zug fare network raises prices moderately
31.03.2026 | Fares have remained unchanged since December 2023. As part of the national fare measures, the prices in the Zug Fare Network (TVZG) will be moderately adjusted. This will safeguard the service and quality despite inflation and rising costs in the public transport sector.
The fare increase corresponds to the scope of the national fare measure and will be introduced with the timetable change in December 2026. The prices of single tickets will rise by between 10 and 40 centimes, while monthly travelcards will increase by 1 (youth) or 4 (adults) francs. Those who opt for an annual travelcard will benefit the most. The annual travelcard corresponds to nine monthly travelcards or a discount of three months and is worthwhile from just two days of travel on public transport per week.
Since the last fare increase in December 2023, general inflation has risen by 1.3 per cent. In the same period, investments have been made in public transport and the range of services has been significantly expanded. The high quality has also been maintained, as demonstrated by the top result of the recently conducted customer satisfaction survey in the canton of Zug. Generally speaking, it can be said that The level of fares in the Zug fare network is low by Swiss standards.
The financial framework conditions for the public transport sector are changing due to political decisions: the reimbursement of the mineral oil tax will be gradually abolished from 2026 and the Swiss parliament has reduced the credit framework for passenger transport for the years 2027 and 2028.
Despite the political situation, one thing is clear: Public transport is popular. More and more people are using the services offered by the Zug fare network, which is reflected in the rising demand. The moderate fare increase will secure the service and quality in the long term.
